You Didn't Miss the Magic: Letting Go of Spiritual Guilt

You Didn't Miss the Magic: Letting Go of Spiritual Guilt

I have a confession. Sometimes I forget.

I forget "The full moon is tonight!" until I climb into bed. I remember the first-of-the-month cinnamon ritual...on the third. I've missed Sabbats. I've skipped meditations because life got loud. I've planned to do a spell for a certain moon phase only to realize halfway through the next day that... well... that opportunity has officially sailed.

And every single time, there's this tiny voice that whispers:

"Well... you messed that up."

Maybe you've heard that voice too. If you have, I'd like to gently challenge it.

Somewhere along the way, many of us accidentally turned our spiritual practice into another checklist.

  1. Light the candle.
  2. Pull the cards.
  3. Journal.
  4. Meditate.
  5. Manifest.
  6. Cleanse.
  7. Charge the crystals.
  8. Celebrate every moon.
  9. Honor every Sabbat.

Don't forget this day. Don't miss that hour. Suddenly the practice that was supposed to bring us peace starts feeling suspiciously like another set of deadlines.

As someone with ADHD, this especially hits home for me. I can have every intention of doing something meaningful...and then life happens. Kids need something. Orders need packing. Dinner needs making. The laundry explodes into existence again. Or...I just simply forgot the thing I had been excited about all week.

For a while, I'd beat myself up over it. To be fair, I still do. However, I started thinking:

Who made these rules?

Nature doesn't panic because a cloud covered the moon. The moon doesn't stop being powerful because I forgot to look up. The Divine isn't sitting with a clipboard marking me absent because I missed a ritual.

So why do I still catch myself doing it?

Here's something I truly believe:

Your connection isn't built on perfect attendance. It's built on intention. The energy you bring matters far more than checking every spiritual box on the calendar.

Would I love to celebrate every Full Moon? Absolutely.

Will I? Probably not.

And that's okay because my relationship with Spirit isn't a performance review.

One thing that's been helping me is changing my mindset from "I missed it." to "How can I honor this energy today?"

Missed the Full Moon?

Journal anyway. Don't stop yourself from lighting the candle. Sit outside. Talk to your guides.

Need to celebrate a Sabbat a day late because you worked all weekend?

Celebrate late.

Forgot the first-of-the-month prosperity ritual?

Then welcome abundance today.

Energy doesn't disappear because the clock struck midnight.

I also remind myself that spirituality has existed for thousands of years. Many of the traditions we love today were practiced by people who didn't have phone reminders, printable moon calendars, aesthetic planners, or social media telling them exactly what they should be doing every day.

Life happened then, too. They missed things. They figured it out as they went. They continued.

So can we.

If you're feeling guilty because you forgot something important to your practice, I'd love for you to hear this:

  • You didn't fail.
  • You didn't lose your intuition.
  • Your spell isn't ruined because it happened 37 minutes late.
  • Your guides didn't walk away because you skipped meditation.
  • The Universe isn't keeping score.

Take a breath. Light the candle. Pull a card. Say a prayer. Sit in silence for five minutes. Begin again.

Your practice has never been about perfection. It's always been about connection. Connection doesn't care if you missed a date on the calendar.

It's something you can return to...anytime.

A Gentle Reminder

Spiritual practices are deeply personal and vary from one person to another. This post is meant to encourage self-compassion and reflection rather than prescribe one "right" way to practice. Trust your intuition, honor your own path, and remember that your journey is uniquely yours.
